DONDI WHITE

1961-1998

Nicknamed the Style Master General, his influence on new street art and the urban art scene is massive, which means that he is and always will be one of the graffiti movement’s most important artists. With his choice of style and results over artistic theory, his works have influenced an entire generation through the photographs of Martha Cooper and particularly her 1984 collection, Subway Art.
As well as being a founding member of the CIA Crew, Dondi had his work exhibited at the Fun Gallery in 1992, and this same gallery would later host exhibitions by Keith Haring, Futura and Basquiat, to name a few. His art was a worldwide sensation in the early 80s appearing in many European and American museums. Exhausted, he retired in 1984 in order to focus on his new work in the medium of collage. He died in 1998 leaving behind a powerful and distinguished legacy.
